VALDOSTA – Valdosta police thwarted a robbery attempt at a Valdosta Walmart Thursday afternoon, and a suspect is now in jail.
William Brazelton, 29, was charged with armed robbery after officers with the Valdosta Police Department arrested him for allegedly attempting to rob the Walmart store at 3274 Inner Perimeter Road.
At approximately 4:35 p.m., Brazelton allegedly approached the Money Center counter inside the store and handed the cashier a note demanding money and suggested to the cashier that he had a weapon, according to VPD reports.
“Walmart employees quickly and quietly contacted police,” said VPD Capy. Kari Williams. “Valdosta Police Officers and Lowndes County Deputies arrived at the scene and took Brazelton into custody. Brazelton was arrested for armed robbery and is currently at the Lowndes County Jail. No one was hurt during the incident.”
A second man had been taken into custody after the incident, but after the man talked with investigators, it was determined he was an innocent party and played no role in the armed robbery, reports stated.
“Wal-Mart personnel did an excellent job alerting law enforcement quickly which allowed the offender to be taken into custody on-scene, before the situation could escalate,” Williams said.
