VALDOSTA – Valdosta’s city-wide camera system led to the arrest of a man who allegedly broke into a vehicle at a downtown business Monday morning.
Christopher Davis, 23, has been charged with two felonies for theft by entering auto and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, according to Valdosta Police Department reports.
At approximately 10:20 a.m., VPD received a call from a person who stated a male broke into his vehicle while parked at a business in the 200 block of West Savannah Avenue, said VPD Lt. Adam Bembry.
“The victim reported as he approached his vehicle, the offender exited the victim’s vehicle and left the area on foot,” Bembry said. “While responding to the call, a Valdosta Police Patrol Shift Supervisor reviewed a downtown camera from the City-Wide Camera System and provided a description of the offender over the radio to other officers.”
The camera system led officers to the general location of the suspect, and responding officers where able to locate him on foot.
“Within a few minutes, officers located the suspect who was positively identified by the victim. The victims belongings taken from his car were recovered and the suspect was also found to be in possession of marijuana,” Bembry said.
Davis was arrested and taken to the Lowndes County Jail.
“This case is a great example of using technology invested by the City of Valdosta to make our city a safer place. The incident also demonstrated how technology acts as a force multiplier for law enforcement,” said Bembry.
