Valdosta Today - I-75 Georgia

TIFT Co. – Interstate 75 northbound and southbound traffic will be paced two separate nights as a Georgia Department of Transportation contractor installs bridge beams at Exit 66/Brighton Road.

Law enforcement will control traffic, which will move at a slow pace in all lanes but will not be stopped. Seven beams will be installed per side, so multiple periods of traffic pacing will be required. Cranes will be stationed on the right shoulder of I-75 and between temporary barriers set up in the inside lanes of traffic. Motorists are asked to be patient moving through the work zone and to remain alert for personnel and heavy equipment in the area.

Work on the reconstruction of the Brighton Road interchange began last summer. The old bridge that was torn down in December was built to 1959 standards and was narrow, which made it difficult for drivers at the top of the ramps to see oncoming traffic. The new bridge will have wider travel lanes and a median turn lane. The project is scheduled to be finished this year.

Beams will be installed over southbound lanes March 31 and over northbound lanes April 4. Traffic pacing will start at 9 p.m. and end at 11 p.m. each night.
