HAHIRA – A Hahira man is in jail after deputies found an active methamphetamine lab in his home last week.
At approximately 4 p.m. on Wednesday, the Special Operations Division of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office investigated tips they had received concerning suspicious activities at a residence in the 8300 block of Morven Road, said LCSO Capt. Stryde Jones.
“At the residence, investigators were allowed to search and found an active methamphetamine lab in the process of making methamphetamine,” Jones said.
Leroy Bowman, 36, was arrested and charged with criminal attempt to manufacture methamphetamine and possession of tools for the commission of a crime. He was taken to the Lowndes County Jail, reports stated.
Investigators with specialized training dismantled the lab and prepared it for safe storage, Jones said.
“These labs present special challenges; not only are they part of a crime scene, the investigators have to take additional precautions because of the exposure to hazardous chemicals,” said Sheriff Chris Prine. “These labs also present extreme dangers of fire and explosion. They are just plain dangerous.”
Prine is asking the public’s assistance in providing information about possible cases.
“We need the public’s assistance, and we are grateful for the tips and information that are provided to us,” Prine said.
