
VALDOSTA – Sunday marks three years since the body of Kendrick Johnson was found at Lowndes High School, and his family will host a peace walk, an anniversary dinner, a ball and a prayer vigil this weekend.
Kendrick’s body was found upside down in a vertically-stored athletic mat at LHS on Jan. 10, 2013. A state autopsy ruled the 17-year-old’s death accidental, but Johnson’s parents insist their son died of foul play. A federal review of the Johnson case in its third year.
Johnson’s parents have organized three days of events to commemorate and honor their son’s life.
Friday, Jan. 8
10 a.m. – rally and protest at the Lowndes County Judicial Complex
5 p.m. – Meet and Greet
6 p.m. – A screening of “Unfortunate,” a documentary focused on Kendrick Johnson, and a question and answer panel discussion on community violence
Saturday, Jan. 9
10 a.m. – Third Annual “KJ Day” at Sanders Park
2 p.m. to 4 p.m. – Peace Walk
7 p.m. to 11 p.m. – Anniversary Dinner and Red & Black Ball
Sunday, Jan. 10
9 a.m. – prayer breakfast
11 a.m. – church
1:15 p.m. – balloon release and prayer vigil at Johnson’s gravesite
