VALDOSTA — Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine released official word of a high speed chase of a motorcycle that lead deputies from Interstate 75, through Hahira, before finally resulting in a stop in Lakeland.
Friday afternoon, a deputy clocked a motorcycle traveling 94 miles per hour heading north on I-75. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, but the motorcycle refused to stop and exited the Interstate at exit 29 in Hahira.
The motorcycle continued to flee east on Georgia Highway 122, through Hahira, reaching speeds around 100 miles per hour. The motorcycle continued into Lanier County at excessive speeds and driving erratically, swerving at opposing traffic, and causing vehicles to swerve to avoid a collision.
Officers with the Lakeland Police Department and deputies with the Lanier County Sheriff’s Office set up a roadblock near the city limits of Lakeland where the motorcycle finally stopped.
The driver, Marvin Lee Kittrell, 45 of Ft. Lauderdale, was arrested for the related traffic violations and while being searched, a quantity of marijuana was found. Kittrell was charged with possession, fleeing and attempting to elude, speeding, reckless driving, and other charges.
Kittrell was taken to the Lowndes County Jail with an arraignment hearing scheduled where a bond will be considered.
Sheriff Prine expressed his appreciation to the Lanier County Sheriff’s Office and the Lakeland Police Department for their help in stopping Kittrell. “Fleeing from law enforcement is dangerous enough, but they way Kittrell was driving endangered everyone on the road.” The Sheriff’s Office can be contacted at {229} 671-2950; or anonymous tips can be provided at {229} 671-2985 or on line at www.lowndessheriff.com.
