VALDOSTA — The City of Valdosta and Lowndes County are investing in a $100,000 study to determine if a truck bypass would be feasible to keep through trucks off of downtown streets.

Gayle, interviewed by Valdosta CEO, stated the City and County governments would be investing $10,000 each with the Federal Government contributing the remaining $80,000, in a study to determine whether there is a bypass of US Highways 84 and 41 feasible for routing heavy trucks.

Gayle noted the growth and vitality of the downtown core of Ashley, Patterson, Central, and Hill and the effect the heavy trucks have on pedestrian traffic and safety.  He would like to look into the possibility of rerouting the trucks around the downtown core.

Gayle, who has recently announced his decision to run for re-election as Mayor, commented on the quality of downtown restaurants, with one being chosen as one of the best in Georgia by Georgia Trend magazine.  He also stated as many as 8,000 jobs were at home in the downtown area of Valdosta.
