CORDELE — Cordele police announce charges in a deadly shooting as we learn the motive for the murder.  Friday afternoon a Crisp County judge signed warrants charging Conardo Dennard and Keontay Miller with murder.

Police told us this afternoon they believe those two men were about to break into Tellis Fort’s home two weeks ago when he showed up. Their names came up 12 hours after the shooting and now they are formally charged in the case.

Tellis Fort’s sister watches emotionally as detectives read off the charges in her brother’s murder case. It’s been two weeks since the 39-year old was gunned down outside his Cordele home during a burglary.

“Mr Fort came home and things happened as they did,” said Cordele Police Detective Andrew Roufs.

Conardo Dennard and Keontay Miller were booked into the Crisp County jail yesterday after being caught in Camden County. The new charges didn’t come until today though.

“A lot of hours have been spent in the first few days was literally non stop. We kind of piggy-backed agents and investigators trying to continue working, going out talking to folks,” said Roufs.

Detectives believe these two men are the only ones involved, but more interviews will still be done.

“Right now, we’re not a hundred percent on that but right now the two primary are the two that are in custody,” said Roufs.

A big break came yesterday when a friend of the two wanted men provided a tip on their whereabouts.

Detective Roufs hopes other citizens take note. “It’s crucial. The publics help is absolutely crucial. Without the public’s help, it’s very hard to solve crimes.”

A lot of evidence must still be processed, but this family can sleep better knowing someone is in jail for this crime. Police will not say if the suspects are cooperating or whether they’ve admitted to committing this crime.
