Failed Kidnapping Attempt Leads to Arrest

VALDOSTA, Ga. – On Friday, December 5, 2019, at approximately 12:01 p.m., patrol officers and detectives with the Valdosta Police Department responded to the 300 block of Norman Drive in reference to a report of an attempted kidnapping.

Upon arrival the victim indicated a subject later identified, Harry Dotson, walked up to her and grabbed her infant son by the arm while she was holding him. Dotson reportedly attempted to pull the child away from the mother but was unsuccessful. The victim related Dotson then grabbed her arm and pulled it.   Officers were able to locate and detain Dotson in the immediate area. Dotson was described as being intoxicated and uncooperative.  Dotson was transported to Lowndes County Jail on the following charges:

  • Criminal Attempt to Commit a Felony (Kidnapping) (Felony);
  • Public Drunkenness (Misdemeanor);
  • Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officer (Misdemeanor); and
  • Simple Battery (Misdemeanor).

There were no injuries reported during this incident.
