
LOWNDES CO. – A Lowndes County student died Monday afternoon after sustaining injuries when a school bus was involved in a collision with a semi-truck on Interstate 75.
The Georgia State Patrol has not released the name of the student.
Thirteen students were transported for medical treatment following a wreck involving a Lowndes County school bus on Interstate 75 Monday afternoon.

Lowndes County Schools Bus 0908 which transfers students from Lowndes High School to Lowndes Middle School was involved in a vehicle accident on I-75 south of Exit 16, according to a released statement from Lowndes County Schools.
Thirteen students were transported to South Georgia Medical Center for treatment.
Lowndes County Schools released the following statement Monday evening:
This afternoon, a Lowndes County school bus departing from Lowndes High School was involved in a motor vehicle collision as it traveled southbound on I 75.
Emergency personnel transported fourteen high school students to South Georgia Medical Center.
The Lowndes County School System is deeply saddened that this evening one of our students died from injuries sustained in the collision.
According to Superintendent Wes Taylor, “We are grateful for the efforts of law enforcement, emergency department personnel, and EMS. We are thankful for their assistance to our students and driver. We are asking our community for prayers and support for everyone involved in the collision.”
Counselors, social workers and support staff will be available for students and faculty in the days ahead.
