VALDOSTA – The Valdosta community celebrated National Garbage Man Day on Friday.

It’s a dirty job, but residents thanked the men for keeping their streets safe and clean.

They say every day feels like ‘Garbage Man Day’ to them.

“They’ll be out there just smiling, saying ‘I’d like to shake your hand and say thank for the job well done that you guys do each and every day for us,'” said Tom Pierce, with Valdosta’s Public Works Department. “Sometimes they will give us a cold drink of water or a Coca Cola. It’s exciting because they have a lot of the kids out there in the morning and they just love to see us come by. We just toot the horn. It’s like a motivating factor and we just try to keep Valdosta clean every day.”

The City gave the workers donuts to say thank you for a job well done.
