TALLAHASSEE— For a big-time college in the South, the title “head coach” carries a lot of weight and responsibility. Mike Norvell, former head coach of Memphis, has answer the call to action by Florida State University. As of Sunday, December 8, 2019, Norvell is officially a Seminole.
Norvell hasn’t come to the Seminoles empty-handed. His impressive record with the Memphis Tigers boasts 99 turnovers with 6.8 tackles for a loss per game, a 12-win and two 10-win seasons, and an average of 40.5 points per game and with an average of 6.90 yards per play.
Being a head coach in college football also means looking out for the players’ success in and out the game. Well, Norvell’s works for Memphis go far beyond the playing field. In 2017, the Memphis football team had the highest grade-point average since its establishment in 1912! His first three years there also saw 55 players earn bachelor’s degrees. Numbers like that undoubtedly add to how the Florida State President, John Thrasher, feels about Mike Norvell:
