VALDOSTA – Valdosta State University receives a grant for over $10,000 from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.
Release:
Valdosta State University has earned a $10,427 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.
Holly Wright, Blazer Wellness manager, said this financial award will be used to fund impaired driving prevention programs and special events, as well as professional development and other opportunities geared towards reducing adult driver crashes, injuries, and fatalities.
“Our goal is to create a campus culture where students look out for one another, plan safe transportation options, and understand that preventing impaired driving is everyone’s responsibility,” Wright shared. “It’s a preventable tragedy that has lasting consequences for every member of our Blazer Nation community. With support from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, we are continuously training and developing creative and innovative programs that raise awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence and promote responsible decision-making.”
The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety’s mission is to educate the public on safe driving behaviors and implement highway safety campaigns and programs designed to reduce crashes and eliminate fatalities and injuries on Georgia roads.
“Innovative projects like this are designed with the intent for Georgia and our nation to reach the realistic goal of zero traffic deaths by the middle of this century,” said Allen Poole, director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. “Each life saved on our roads is one less family that will have to live with the pain of losing a loved one whose life was taken from them in a traffic crash that was completely preventable”
The grant year for this award runs through Sept. 30, 2026.
