Release:

After consultation with Chief Superior Court Judge Howard McClain and County Commission Chairman Jeff Lane, the decision has been made to close the Cook County Probate Court due to a “possible” COVID-19 exposure.

Chief Judge McClain will enter an official order tomorrow (7/26/2020) closing the probate court for a maximum of 14 days. At this time, no probate court staff is symptomatic and the closure is strictly precautionary pending test results of a court clerk who had contact with a symptomatic individual. All court proceedings, firearm license applications, and marriage license applications scheduled for the affected time period will be rescheduled. Subject to Chief Supreme Court Justice Harold Melton’s Judicial Emergency Order, all times will be tolled on all pending civil and criminal proceeding through August 10, 2020.
