ALERT: SPECIAL OLYMPICS POSTPONED
VLPRA is postponing the Local Special Olympics games, originally scheduled for Thursday, March 5th.
It is rescheduled for Tuesday, March 10th at Freedom Park. Student and volunteer check in is at 9:30 AM. Opening Ceremonies will start at 10:00 AM.
VLPRA apologizes for the inconvenience and looks forward to seeing everyone Tuesday.

Hundreds of Special Olympians will come to Valdosta this week to compete in the largest ever Youth and Adult Spring Special Olympics at Freedom Park. Students ages 8 to 21 from five area counties will compete in a variety of sports at the event on Thursday, March 5th. The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority hosts the spring Special Olympics event each year.
More than 500 students and teachers will be participating in the games that feature friendly competition in track and field, softball, and various developmental sports. Opening Ceremonies will start at 10:00 AM. All the fun will happen in the Miracle Field Complex at Freedom Park off Guest Road in Valdosta.
The complex just celebrated its one year anniversary on Monday, March 2nd.
VLPRA is monitoring the weather and will make announcements concerning any event changes on its Facebook page, facebook.com/vlpra. The Authority will give updates on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning on the page.
