VALDOSTA – A man was shot and injured Wednesday morning, and the Valdosta Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating the individual investigators believe pulled the trigger.

At approximately 2:15 a.m., patrol officers with the Valdosta Police Department responded to the 1000 Block of North Toombs Street in reference to a subject suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower abdomen.

Officers arrived on scene and located the victim, assisting him until paramedics could arrive. The victim was transported by paramedics to a local hospital for treatment of his wounds; after being treated, he was later released.

Patrol officers began speaking with witnesses while calling in additional assistance from Valdosta Police Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians from the Valdosta-Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory.

Through the investigation, Detectives were able to determine that an argument occurred between the victim and Drequan Denson, 18.

During the argument, Denson produced a handgun and discharged the weapon multiple times, striking the victim once.

Detectives also learned that the shooting occurred in the presence of a three year old child, who was not injured.

Arrest Warrants for Drequan Denson were obtained this morning. Denson is now wanted for Aggravated Assault and Cruelty to Children. Further charges are pending. At this time Denson has not yet been located.

“The Valdosta Police Department asks if anyone has any information or is aware of the whereabouts of Denson to contact the Valdosta Police Department immediately,” said VPD Lieutenant Adam Bembry.
