Everyone wants to be safe. Everyone wants to be secure. Nobody wants to be a victim. Sadly, there are many cities where the residents don’t get a choice— places where crime runs rampant.

Let’s consider five cities reported to Georgia’s most crime ridden and compare there statistics with the 5 acclaimed safest. Primary sources for these comparisons are RoadSnacks and Alarms.org.

Hapeville vs. Kennesaw— Violent crime (Classified by FBI as murder and non-negligent manslaughter, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault) is becoming a hallmark of Hapeville. Chances of being a violent crimes victim in this city are 1 in 134 (or 7.41 per 1,000). Consider also that there’s only a little over 6.5k people. Kennesaw, having 34,000 citizens, shows only 2.1 per 1,000 being violent crime victims. As the old saying goes, “There’s safety in numbers”.

Americus vs. Johns Creek— Of the five cities housed within Sumter County, only Americus made RoadSnack’s list of most dangerous. Seated in the number four spot, Americus has a rating of 95 out of 100 for property crime as recorded by Best Places. In fact, it’s ‘per 1,000’ for property crimes (60.65) is about ten times that of Johns Creek (6.76).

Eastman vs. Milton— These two cities show where lists really part ways. Milton, an affluent area of north Georgia with some 33,000 residents, saw just nine violent crimes all of last. Eastman, a city of just 5,000, saw 42 violent crimes in 2018 and continues to rise in violent crimes per year.

College Park vs. Braselton— Road Snacks is quoted saying, “Ludacris, 2 Chainz, and Jung Joc all came from College Park and they don’t sing about rainbows and butterflies”. The FBI includes parts of other counties, so College Park’s high rankings aren’t solely based on the urban zones. All things considered however, College Park should have population advantage to bring down its ‘per 1000’ rankings, but the small town of Braselton, second safest city in Georgia according to Alarms.org, puts them to shame. Out of 10,000 people, one person might be the victim of a violent or property crime in Braselton. The rating for College Park is 70 times that.

East Point vs. Holly Springs— The ranks are close between College Park and East Point, but the chances for safety favor College Park. That says something. Just south of Atlanta, East Point showed a 1 in 8 chance of being a victim of crime. East Point has 35,000 residents in comparison to Holly Springs’ 12,000. Crime in Holly Springs has a fraction of a fraction of the crime rate in East Point. The environment of Holly Springs consists of many families and business professionals which contribute to its welcoming, low crime rate.
