Four part series in reflection of another magical season for #MadCoFBall. One more chapter left in the fourteen game season; Saturday is the opportunity for #3Peat.
Part II: The Fans— The fans are the life blood of the support for the team. As with many small towns, the joke (which likely originated in Texas) is “whoever is last to leave, turn out the lights” for Friday Night Lights. Well, for our small town to regularly be in the top five attendance of all state finals games in Orlando illustrates the dedication to our program. And, with the proximity of the state finals game, comments have already been made the toughest job Saturday will be those rookie law enforcement officers left behind to guard Madison.
When speaking to fans and the chain crew (the most knowledgeable fan, even if a bit biased, in my opinion), they are always amazed at the turnout of our fans for away games. In the words of a gentleman in Lakewood: “This is amazing”. And, it even more impressive when opponents come to Boot Hill where you don’t gauge attendance by the number in the stands, but by those aligned by the northwest fences. Announcer Rodney McKinley, who replaced the legendary late Mr. Rodney Irvine, has done a great job of keeping the crowd engaged. And in the stands, Edgar Burch and the Blantons (Bruce and Herbert) do their familiar “What do we want?!?!?” and “Move Them Chains; Move Them Chains” chants while the football Moms (especially those without children) cry out at nefarious acts committed against the Cowboys. And, the students’ section has definitely grown more prominent over the years in support of their fellow classmates and friends.
We salute and thank you Cowboys Fans, especially those members of the Marshall Club who give a little bit more each year for the continued success and legacy of Cowboys Athletics.
