The term “G.O.A.T.” is often overused and underwhelming by well-meaning, enthusiastic fans. However, there are only a select few individuals that bona fide sports reporters will give their G.O.A.T. tag to. In a Tweet in late November, Sporting News gave their take on their greatest college football player of all time— Herschel Walker.

Among their Top 10 list, Sporting News included names like Tommie Frazier, Barry Sanders, and Bo Jackson, but, as with any Top 10 list, only one player could take the top spot. In the article on this subject preceding the Tweet, Sporting News let the stats speak for why they feel Herschel deserves top spot:

Walker led Georgia to a national championship with 1,616 yards and 15 touchdowns in 1980… he totaled 5,259 yards and 49 touchdowns… [he earned] the Heisman Trophy in 1982. He is the only player to finish in the top three in the Heisman voting three times, and was a three-time unanimous All-American selection.
