VALDOSTA, Ga. – Two Lowndes High School senior football players take part in #SigningDay by accepting their full-ride football scholarships. Viking’s Line Backer Gary Osby, and Offensive Linemen Bryer Touchton, signed on with Kennesaw State University and Mercer University, respectively, earlier today.

The school and family of these soon-to-be graduating seniors came out to show their support in this life-changing moment.

“[Mercer] was the only school that he applied to and we’re very excited. Athletically and academically it has everything that we want,” said Mrs. Touchton, “We’re very excited and blessed. We’re very appreciative of the coaches here at Lowndes both Tommy Watson, who was his position coach, and Randy McPherson. He’s played with them all four years and they’ve really developed him into a young man and made this possible for us.”

Bryer Touchton, a Valdosta native, plans on going to Mercer University as a Pre-Med student to hopefully become a pediatric surgeon.

Mrs. and Mr. Osby are both very proud of their son and his accomplishments. “Sports started him early on, but football started when we came to Valdosta,” said Mr. Osby. All of the parents plan to make it to every game that they can, even if it is “three and a half hours up the road.”

Gary Osby, who has plans to major in Education and become a math teacher, says, “The coaches at Lowndes coached us like it was a college team. So, I definitely feel comfortable with that.”

Touchton and Osby have been playing together since the two were only ten-years-old. Both of the young men say that they plan to stay in touch with the entire team that they grew up with. The close-knit feeling of not only the seniors but the entire school was felt at the signing.

Remember to keep up with these Vikings once their college football careers begin!
