Former Auburn University quarterback Pat Sullivan who won the school’s first Heisman Trophy in 1971 and went on to play in the NFL, has died at the age of 69.

In a statement Sunday, his family said he died at home surrounded by loved ones.

Sullivan fought a long, difficult battle with cancer that began in 2003.
