VALDOSTA – The Valdosta State softball team made it two consecutive weeks in which a player was honored by the Gulf South Conference, as Chelsea Canara earned this week’s GSC Player of the Week award to follow last week’s honoree, Jessica Mohl.

Canara earned the honor in recognition of a week in which she hit .600 on the week (9-for-15) with a double, two homers, and five RBI’s. Her 31 RBI’s so far during this, her senior season, place her tops among all players at the NCAA Division II level. Her stellar week last week also led to 16 total bases with eight runs scored, and she posted a 1.067 slugging percentage. On defense, she recorded five putouts with four assists at third base.

The No. 6 ranked Blazers return to action on the road on Wednesday, March 1st, with a doubleheader matchup against Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla. The contest will feature live coverage, available via links at www.vstateblazers.com.
