VALDOSTA – After moving into a second-place tie for most wins in the Gulf South Conference with a pair of victories on the week, Valdosta State softball’s Avery Lamb was named the GSC Freshman of the Week by the league office on Tuesday.

Lamb picked up two wins with 11 innings pitched on the weekend to help lead the Blazers to a 3-0 sweep of the Union Bulldogs in Valdosta, Ga. During her two appearances, she allowed just five hits and struck out nine, while holding the Bulldogs to a .139 batting average. Her efforts led to one complete game shutout on Saturday, and the lefty contributed four innings to Sunday’s shutout in the series finale.

In her freshman season, the Warner Robins, Ga. native has made quite a splash in the league. Against just one loss, she has racked up 10 victories, which places her in a four-way tie for second place and just one win behind the conference leader.

Valdosta State will hit the road this weekend for a return to GSC action against the Lee Flames in Cleveland, Tenn. The opening matchup of the three-game weekend is slated for a 2:00 p.m. first pitch.
