VALDOSTA – Another impressive performance by Cedric Hollingshed in Saturday’s 42-41 victory over Mississippi College resulted in a Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week honor for the Macon, Ga. native, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

The honor, which comes on the heels of a 65-yard rushing effort, marks the second straight for Hollingshed and the third this season. The freshman’s lone touchdown in his most recent game represented the game-winning score for the Blazers, and he demonstrated his versatility with five catches for 41 yards.

Thus far in 2016, Hollingshed leads the team with three rushing touchdowns and has racked up 238 net rushing yards in just four games played. With 45 attempts on the year, he is averaging 5.3 yards per carry, and his 16 catches have led to 116 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Valdosta State is celebrating homecoming week this week leading up to another big Gulf South Conference showdown on Saturday against the visiting Delta State Statesmen. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
