VALDOSTA –  For the second time in three weeks, Valdosta State’s Cedric Hollingshed has been named the Gulf South Conference football Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.

The honor for Hollingshed comes on the heels of his most impressive outing yet, which helped lead the Blazers to a critical conference win over the No. 12 ranked West Georgia Wolves on Saturday night in Valdosta, Ga. In the victory, the running back used 20 carries to rack up a season-high 86 yards on the ground.

In addition, Hollingshed showed off his versatility in the contest with a team-high nine receptions. Those catches led to 52 receiving yards for the Macon, Ga. native and resulted in an important touchdown midway through the first half. The touchdown reception marked Hollingshed’s third score of the season.

Hollingshed’s first Freshman of the Week honor came two week’s ago following his 2-touchdown performance in the Blazers’ win over West Florida.

Valdosta State returns to action this weekend in Clinton, Miss. for another league matchup against the Mississippi College Choctaws. The game is slated for a 4:00 p.m. EST kickoff, with coverage available at www.vstateblazers.com.
