PONTE VEDRA, FLORIDA – As golf prepares for the season finale at East Lake in Atlanta, big changes are under way at the TPC Sawgrass course in Ponte Vedra.

The home of golf’s “fifth major”, the PLAYERS Championship, will feature redesigned holes, including holes 6 and 7. The 6th has been called “the most beautiful hole on the course” on architect Pete Dye’s innovative creation, but now it will provide even more drama.

The redesign opens up the two holes to better allow for dual action and better connect the holes to the clubhouse.

The video below, provided by the PGA Tour, showcases the transformation of holes 6 and 7, with commentary from the PGA Tour Deputy Commissioner & COO Jay Monahan.  He is joined by PGA Tour VP of Construction and Design Steve Wenzloff in explaining the new design and what it is taking to complete this transformation.

A feature of the new design will allow competitors to see each other as one tees off on the 6th hole while another finishes on the 7th green.

The course renovations are planned to be completed well in time for the 2017 PLAYERS Championship.
