VALDOSTA – Freshman Cedric Hollingshed turned his first two quarters of collegiate action into a Gulf South Conference Player of the Week honor, as announced by the conference on Monday.

Hollingshed, a 6’0″ running back out of Macon, Ga., was called on by Head Coach Kerwin Bell in the second half of Saturday’s contest against the West Florida Argonauts. The Westside High School graduate gave the Blazer offense a spark they desperately needed in his debut, as he ripped off 78 total yards and scored two touchdowns on 11 carries in the game.

His longest carry came in the fourth quarter, when he plowed through the Argonaut defense for a 21-yard rush, and he also added one completion to his stellar night.

The Blazers went on to win Saturday’s contest 40-28 and will turn their attention this week to the Okefenokee Gridiron game against Kentucky State in Waycross, Ga. The game will take place in Memorial Stadium and is slated for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
