VALDOSTA – It’s been five years since John and Tammy Eunice lost their son, James.

“We miss him. We miss him everyday,” says Tammy. ” I don’t think it will ever get easier.”

Since that day, the Eunice family has been on a mission to keep his memory alive through charity.

“For the James Eunice Charity Fund, we’ve been able to give back 183 scholarships so far since May of 2011, which would’ve been James’ graduating class,” says John.

They say most of the money is raised through community events, such as James Eunice Day, which will take place at Sam’s Club in Valdosta on Saturday.

The event is a fun day for family and friends, just days after James’ birthday.

T-shirt sales and donations all go to scholarships.

“The look on their face when they receive it says everything. In the notes we receive back, they speak of how it’s important to take James’ name when they go,” says Tammy.

Bradley Felkel, a Valdosta High graduate, was selected three years ago.

“James was a great person,” says Felkel. “For them to see me in the same light as him, it was really great for me and really humbling.”

“That is the avenue, that gives us that footprint into someone’s life to share James’ story,” says Tammy.

A special gift, now spreading the legacy of James forever.

The fifth annual John Eunice Day is Saturday at Sam’s Club on Norman Drive.

The event is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
