VALDOSTA – The Valdosta State golf team shaved two strokes off of Sunday’s round 1 score to finish with a 9-over 297 and move up to a 12th place tie with Georgia Southwestern after round 2 of the 2016 First Federal Collegiate on Monday at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga.
Davis Roche paced the Blazers with a 1-over 73 score on the day, which represented a four-stroke improvement over his opening round score. Roche’s effort came as a result of a three-stroke birdie at No. 7 and par scores at 15 of the other 17 holes.
Matt Anderson matched his first round score of 2-over 74 with a similar performance on Monday, while Jake Harpe saw the biggest improvement from round 1 to round 2 and matched Anderson’s 2-over 74 score.
As a team, the Blazers started the day on the back nine and made the turn at 1-over par. The second half of the day proved to be problematic for the red and black, however, as VSU teamed up for an 8-over score over the course of their final stretch on the front nine.
