ATHENS – A Lowndes High School junior receiver has committed to playing football for the University of Georgia.

Xavier Jenkins told DawgNation he chose UGA over Louisville for one reason: the long drive his mom would have to take to see him play in Kentucky.

Jenkins attended UGA’s Junior Day last weekend and said he didn’t want his mother, Stephanie Byrd, to miss games because of travel times.

Jenkins is the first receiver in the 2017 class for UGA. He committed to UGA receivers coach James Coley on Thursday.
