VALDOSTA – The Valdosta State baseball team closed out a series sweep of Christian Brothers with another hitting exhibition that led to a 14-4 Gulf South Conference win over the Bucs on Sunday afternoon at Billy Grant Field in Valdosta, Ga.

The win lifted the Blazers to 10-3 on the year and 3-0 in GSC play, while Christian Brothers fell to 4-8 overall and 0-3 in league action.

Kyle Andre picked up the victory on the hill to improve to 1-1, thanks to an offensive barrage by the Blazers that included 17 hits. Seven of those hits were for extra bases, as VSU teamed up for five doubles and three homers in the contest. Dalton Duty had two doubles, while Chipper Andzel and Scott Mathews added on with one double apiece. In addition, Tyler York, Isaiah Aluko, and Ryan Smith all swung for long balls in the game.

Eleven different hitters hit safely at least once in the game, which resulted in three runs in the first, sixth, seventh, and eighth innings for Head Coach Greg Guilliams’ squad. Duty led the way with a 3-for-4 effort that included two runs scored and two RBI’s, and Mathews swung for three hits as well. Smith rounded out the list of Blazers to deliver multiple hits on the day with a 2-for-3 outing that included the aforementioned homer.

Duty’s day at the plate put an exclamation point on a week in which the right fielder hit .667 with two doubles, five RBI’s, and eight runs scored. He also walked five times on the week and delivered three assists from the outfield.

Valdosta State continues this week with a non-conference matchup against Georgia Regents, scheduled for Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. The game will take place at Billy Grant Field in Valdosta, Ga. and will serve as a lead in to next weekend’s GSC series against West Florida in Pensacola, Fla.
