LAVONIA, Ga. – In less than a week, six Georgia law enforcement officers have been shot in the line of duty, including four on Monday.

The latest happened Monday evening in Lavonia in Northeast Georgia where two police officers were shot during a traffic stop.

Both were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The shooter was arrested after a two-hour search and was taken into custody.

It happened less than 24 hours after two Byron Police officers were wounded while serving a warrant on a home in Crawford County.

Less than a week ago, Americus Police officer Nicholas Smarr and Georgia Southwestern State University safety officer Jody Smith were shot December 7th while responding to a domestic disturbance call.

Smarr died at the scene. Smith died the following day from his injuries.
