VALDOSTA – The Valdosta Police Department has arrested a 17-year-old Lowndes County resident trying to steal a vehicle on East Park Avenue.

Release:

Arrested: Patrick Williams, African American male 17 years of age, Lowndes County resident

On August 2, 2024, at approximately 1:50 am., Valdosta Police Officers responded to an apartment complex in the 1500 block of East Park.  A citizen called E911 to report that she had observed an unknown male inside her vehicle.  The victim provided a detailed description of the male she had observed in her car.

As officers arrived, they immediately located a male, later identified as Patrick Williams, 17 years of age, who matched the description given by the victim.  When officers attempted to make contact with him, Williams ran from them.  A Valdosta Police Department K9 Unit responded and began looking for Williams.  The K9 Unit, with the assistance of other officers and deputies with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, found Williams hiding in the backyard of a residence in the 1700 block of Barack
Obama Blvd.  Williams was arrested without any further incident.

During the investigation, officers discovered the steering column was damaged in the victim’s vehicle, and evidence showed that Williams was attempting to steal the car.

Williams was transported to Lowndes County Jail, and he has been charged with:

  • Criminal attempt to commit a felony-felony;
  • Possession of tools for the commission of a crime-felony;
  • Obstruction of law enforcement officers-misdemeanor; and
  • Loitering and prowling- misdemeanor.

“The ability of this victim to provide a detailed description of the offender was extremely key in his quick apprehension.  This is another great example of law enforcement working together.  Teamwork resulted in this offender being tracked and apprehended without any further incident.” Said Chief Leslie Manahan.
