VALDOSTA— Medical Assistants in Lowndes County and across the country were recognized during Medical Assistants Recognition Week, October 21 – October 25, 2019, as designated by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).
In celebration of Medical Assistants Recognition Week, Mayor John Gayle wrote a proclamation recognizing the hard work, continued service, and versatility of medical assistants in health care delivery, which was presented by Mayor Pro Tem Sandra Tooley at Valdosta City Hall to members of the Lowndes County Chapter of Medical Assistants and the Wiregrass Georgia Technical College medical assisting program students and instructors on Monday, October 21, 2019.

Each year the AAMA sponsors Medical Assistants Recognition Week during the third week in October. The mission of AAMA is to provide the medical assistant professional with education, certification, credential acknowledgement, networking opportunities, scope-of-practice protection, and advocacy for quality patient-centered health care. Medical Assisting is an allied health profession whose practitioners function as members of the health care delivery team and perform administrative and clinical procedures. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, medical assisting is one of the nation’s fastest growing occupations.
The Lowndes County Chapter of Medical Assistants is a component chapter of the Georgia Society of Medical Assistants and AAMA. The Lowndes County Chapter received its charter in 1969 and is celebrating its 50 th Anniversary during Medical Assistants Recognition Week. One of its founding members, Kathleen Moore, was honored at the GSMA Annual Conference in May 2019 in Marietta, Georgia with the “Kathleen Moore Mentor Award” for her years of dedication, commitment, and mentoring new medical assistants across Georgia.
Lowndes County Chapter of Medical Assistants President, Kay Morris, welcomes all medical assistants to the next chapter meeting to be held at 12:00 on Thursday, December 5th, 2019 at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College in Room 215, Berrien Hall.
