VALDOSTA – Dozens of families and friends in South Georgia took a moment Tuesday to remember the victims who died in the Orlando shooting.

All 49 victims were called out by name at a candlelight vigil at Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church in Valdosta Tuesday evening.

People from all walks of life came together, including local LGBT groups, South Georgia Pride and One The Same South Georgia.

“It’s amazing the response the community has had, the togetherness that has come out of this, and just the positives that are coming out of this,” said Ramon Perez.

Ramon and his husband, Levy Hires, held the first legal same-sex marriage ceremony in Lowndes County nearly a year ago.

“Our hearts go out to all of the families and friends”, says Levy Hires. “We’re all one big family supporting each other.”
