ADEL – A truck driver was charged in an accident that closed Old Quitman Road and slowed interstate traffic Saturday morning in Cook County.
At approximately 8:40 a.m., Georgia State Patrol troopers responded to an accident at Interstate 75 Exit 37.
A semi-truck was reportedly traveling northbound on I-75 and attempted to take Exit 37 when it struck a guardrail on the driver’s side, continued up an embankment and came to a stop after the truck’s cab jumped another guardrail.
Lewis Lopez, 27, the driver, was taken to taken to a hospital but was not injured during the incident. Lopez was charged with failure to maintain lane, driving too fast for conditions and a seat belt violation, reports WALB.
Old Quitman Road was closed until 12:20 p.m. while the scene was cleared.
GSP investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the incident.
