VALDOSTA – Nearly three months after Marquivius Brockington, 24, was shot to death inside his home at 5260 Fortress Cir. in Valdosta, his family hoped a $10,000 reward would help identify the killer.

“I just feel like there’s gotta be somebody that knows something. I just want closure. This is my son and I just feel like I need that,” said Brockington’s mother, Deandra Jones.

Family members of Brockington gathered at the Valdosta Police Department Monday afternoon to announce that they were offering the reward for information leading to the arrest of Brockington’s killer.

“The reason we came forth at this particular time for the reward,” explained Brockington’s step-father, Richard Jones, “is for the community to come together to help the Valdosta Police Department.”

Brockington was shot multiple times around 11:45 on Friday night, June 5th just after walking into his home.

Investigators found meth and marijuana in the home and are investigating the possibility that the shooter may have been inside Brockington’s home, trying to steal the drugs when Brockington came home.

But beyond that, Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress would not be more specific Monday in regards to a possible motive. “I’ll say this: without going into too much detail, we have a theory,” Chief Childress said. “We are pretty confident of what happened.”

He was also pretty confident, based on past experiences, that the reward would help bring the suspect to justice. “The higher the amount of money, the more we can expect to get what we would call factual tips,” Chief Childress explained.

“We just want justice because his son just three years old, his daughter one. We want to be able to say we did find who killed your father,” said Brockington’s aunt.
