VALDOSTA — A fire consumed a single-family residence Monday morning in Valdosta.

Valdosta Fire Department teams responded to a fire at a home, located at 204 Miles Street, Monday morning about 10:15.  Smoke was seen pouring from the structure.

Reports state an elderly man who lived in the house, escaped.  He had heard noises coming from the bathroom area of the house and called 911 Emergency.

Valdosta Fire Department investigators will inspect the site to find a cause.  Though the fire was contained, it was severely damaged by the fire, smoke, and water.  The resident is being assisted by family and friends.
