ALBANY — On Thursday, around 2:15 a.m. a fire consumed a mobile home on Pine Bluff Road. Dougherty County Police Officer, Byron Hill was patrolling the area when he spotted the fire.
Officer Hill reported hearing calls for help while trying to get into the home. He was able to get through a window to rescue Richard and Connie Strandburg, 5-year-old Steven Hatcher, and 20-year-old Richard Strandberg Junior
Firefighters found Strandberg Junior, who is blind, unconscious in the dining room of the home.
All four of them were rescued and sent to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation.
In a WALB report, Hill said, “I’m grateful…humbled by the experience. Thank God for grace and mercy, it was because of him they were alive. I was happy to be used to get them out.”
Officials said the fire started because of “careless smoking materials” left on the porch.
