Apparent Murder-Suicide in Cairo

CAIRO — Authorities have discovered what appears to be a murder-suicide in Cairo.

The Grady County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting at 499 Jordon Road in Grady County, Sunday morning about 8:30.

Family members reported that Jamie Sandefur, 39, had been shot by her husband, George Sandefur, 55.

The victim was shot with an assault style rifle inside her residence.  First Responders took her to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, but she later died from her injuries.

After the shooting, George Sandefur left and went to 281 Hines Perkins Road in Whigham.  Deputies with the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Hines Perkins Road address.  They located the suspect, Sandefur.  He was found with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

He was transported to Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville where he later died.

George Sandefur did have a criminal record and history of abuse, having been previously arrested on June 28, 2015 for Simple Battery-Family Violence and Terroristic Threats.  His wife, Jamie Sandefur, was the victim.
