LEESBURG — The circumstances related to the shooting death of a Lee County physician are still under investigation. Authorities released audio of the 911 call made by the victim’s husband, a potential suspect in the death Lisa Riley last Friday.
The audio, released by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and reported by WALB, detailed the comments made by the husband, Yathomas Riley, as he reported the death to authorities.
Riley, 34 and a doctor with Phoebe Physician Group, was found dead in her home with a gunshot wound to her head.
According to the report, Riley’s husband told officers that he found her dead around 8:30 a.m. on Friday, and called 911.
The report stated Riley called 911 and said, “I just came in from out of town, and my wife, I don’t know what’s going on, but she’s in a room, and she’s got blood coming out of her.”
The 911 dispatcher then asked him from where his wife was bleeding, to which Riley responded, “she shot herself.”
Lee County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched and arrived at the couple’s home on Northampton Road. They then called Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents for further assistance in investigating the mysterious death.
The victim’s body was taken to the GBI crime lab in Macon for an autopsy, which confirmed the cause of death, a gunshot to the head.
However, the circumstances related to her death is still very much under investigation.
Authorities searched the Riley home and discovered a small child inside. Investigators also found as many as six guns.
That lead authorities to arrest Yathomas Riley on an unrelated bond revocation charge. At the time of this report, he has not been charged in connection with his wife’s death.
Riley’s record includes prior charges of three counts of aggravated assault from a domestic dispute involving his wife in June. At that time, he was granted bond which prohibited him from being in a home with firearms. That gave authorities enough to arrest him at the time of his reporting the incident.
He was booked into the Lee County Jail and is expected to appear at a bond hearing that was deferred until Tuesday, July 21 at 1 p.m.
