DOUGLAS — The suspect shot by a Douglas Police Officer has died as a result of his wounds.
Douglas Police responded to a call from a woman who told them she had been shot in the hand. The incident occurred at 1404 North June Avenue in Douglas on Tuesday afternoon.
Once officers arrived on the scene, they found a man on the front porch of the house with a gun pointed at his chin. He stated to officers he had two weapons.
The officers ordered the suspect to drop his weapons, after which he turned the gun on them, forcing the officers to respond.
One Douglas Police Officer, Joseph Bracket, then shot and struck the man in the stomach. He was later taken to hospital in Douglas and, after a period of time, pronounced dead.
The incident is being investigated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
