LOWNDES — Lowndes County Schools celebrated coaches and a year filled with championships, state qualifiers, and athletic milestones.

Valdosta, GA — The Lowndes County Schools athletic department recently hosted its annual Coaches Appreciation Dinner, bringing together coaches from across the district for an evening dedicated to recognizing the leadership, commitment, and impact of those who invest in student-athletes both on and off the field.
During the event, Superintendent Sandra Wilcher and Krista Pearson thanked coaches for the countless hours they dedicate to mentoring students, building character, and creating opportunities for success through athletics.
Athletic Director Josh Akers also reflected on an outstanding year for Viking athletics, highlighting the continued growth and success of programs across the district.
“The success we celebrate is a reflection of the people leading our programs, and we are fortunate at Lowndes to have coaches who are passionate about what they do and never treat it as simply checking a box,” Akers shares.
Lowndes High School teams earned an impressive seven region titles and eight region runner-up finishes this year, while also celebrating state-level accomplishments in multiple programs. The Lowndes High School eSports team captured a state championship, while the Literary Team also earned an individual state title.
Several athletic programs reached historic milestones during the year. The football team recorded 10 wins for the second consecutive season, competition cheer claimed a region championship and state qualification, and volleyball set a new school record with 28 wins. The riflery team completed the most successful season in school history, while the Vikette basketball program earned its fifth consecutive region title and advanced to the Elite Eight for the third straight year. Boys basketball secured four region championships in the past five seasons, and the tennis program celebrated its first region sweep in 13 years. Cross Country, Gymnastics, Bass Fishing, and Wrestling all had State Qualifiers.
Lowndes baseball continued its tradition of excellence with a seventh consecutive region championship, while track and field saw the girls team win a region championship and the boys finish as region runner-up. Together, the programs produced 22 state qualifiers. Both boys and girls golf teams also advanced to compete for state championships this season, with the Boys finishing as State Runner-Up and the Girls finishing 4th.
At the middle school level, student-athletes and coaches celebrated nine conference championships and four conference runner-up finishes, showcasing the strength of athletic programs throughout the district.
From championships to character-building, Lowndes coaches continue to make a lasting impact on students, schools, and the community while helping shape the tradition of excellence that defines Viking athletics.
