THOMASVILLE, Ga. — Cub Scouts of Pack 316 could be seen returning to neighborhoods early Saturday morning, February 2. Their goal was to collect bags distributed seven days prior to be filled with food donated by the gracious community residents. A staple held by the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is to “do a good turn daily.”
“Scouting for Food teaches (the Cub Scouts) the value of serving others, as well as their community,” said Cubmaster Jeana Smith “Part of the Scout Oath is ‘to help other people at all times,’ so, this gives them an opportunity to help those that are less fortunate.”

The event has been met with positive reception in years past. As more young members join local Cub Scout Pack 316, the opportunity for impact continues to grow.
“Last year, the Pack had four Dens, and now we have five.” said Cubmaster Jeana, “Usually (Scouting for Food) is a big event for the Pack.”
The community of Thomasville has expressed their gratitude for the dedication and willingness of the young boys to help; both principles that are taught at the core of the BSA.
“We’re thanked for helping the community.” said Mandy Grage, Secretary & Chairperson for the Scouting for Food event, “Social media has helped us spread the word to the community.”
The food collected was delivered to the Thomas County Food Bank for distribution. It has been estimated than an excess of 5000lbs of food was collected this year.
