MACON — An 18-year-old Macon man was arrested Monday in connection with a crime spree that allegedly involves carrying a gun onto Mercer University property in February, beating a man in April and a May armed robbery.
Craig Larmont Curry, of Case Street, is charged with carrying weapons on school property, escape, criminal trespass, battery, criminal gang activity, armed robbery, kidnapping, burglary and two counts of aggravated assault, according to Bibb County jail records.
According to arrest warrants:
Curry and two other people were spotted walking in Mercer University parking lots at about 10:10 p.m. Feb. 24. He asked a student where he could buy drugs. School security cameras showed the trio entering vehicles.
Curry additionally is accused of hiding a loaded handgun in the bed of a pick-up truck after he hitched a ride running away from campus police. After police charged Curry with carrying a gun on campus, he escaped.
He is accused in the gang-related April 3 assault of a man which included the man being struck with closed fists, stomped, kicked and struck with a gun. Curry allegedly is a member, associate or affiliate of the “10-12” gang, also known as the “Petey Fam.” Video of the assault, which occurred at Sparks Cafe on Mercer University Drive, was uploaded to social media.
On May 15, Curry allegedly entered a house in the 600 block of Manning Mill Road and took money, clothing, electronics and jewelry. He is accused of holding three people at gunpoint inside the victims’ vehicle, forcing a person to go to an ATM to withdraw money and demanding clothing and cell phones from two other people in the car.
