JACKSONVILLE — A man has been arrested in Jacksonville on charges of plotting to travel overseas and join the Islamic State terrorist organization.
The Florida Times Union is reporting Abror Habibov, 30 from Uzbekistan, was arrested Wednesday morning in Jacksonville related to a plot that may have involved 2 others also in custody. The FBI and US Attorney’s Office managed the investigation and arrest. One of the others, Akhror Saidakhmetov, 19, was arrested at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York while he attempted to board a flight for Istanbul, Turkey. The third suspect, Abdurasul Hasanovich Juraboev, 24, was arrested in Brooklyn.
Habibov was living in Brooklyn though he was captured in Jacksonville. He appeared in Federal Court in Jacksonville Wednesday and was appointed a public defender.
Authorities discovered the plot after two of the suspects posted support online for terror groups and ISIS. They will be charged with conspiring to support and fight for Islamic State in Syria (ISIS). Juraboev was reported to have posted on a terror site in August of last year his aim to kill President Obama if ordered to to so by ISIS. The others had reportedly posted other threats against law enforcement. They were alledgedly attempting to travel to Turkey, then Syria to join ISIS.
