A Valdosta woman has been arrested for leaving a one-year-old unattended for an unknown period of time at a local residence.

Valdosta Police Department Report:

On September 20, 2024, at approximately 9:00 am., Valdosta Police Officers responded to a residence in the 1800 block of Englewood Drive, after a citizen called E911 to report that a one-year-old child had been left alone at a residence, for an unknown period.

The witnesses stated that they arrived at the residence around 7:00 am. and found the child alone in the
residence.  The witnesses told officers that the mother Brieanna Torres, 25 years of age, arrived approximately 30 minutes after they came to the house.  They stated that Torres appeared to be under the influence of marijuana.
Officers made contact with Torres and immediately recognized that she was under the influence of narcotics.  She told officers several stories about what occurred but could not tell them where she had been.
As officers attempted to arrest Torres for reckless conduct, for leaving her child unattended, she began to physically resist officers.  Torres attempted to strike an officer in the head with her fist.  After a brief struggle, Torres was taken into custody without incident.  She was transported to Lowndes County Jail, for reckless conduct (misdemeanor) and obstruction of an officer (felony).
The Department of Family and Children Services was also notified of the incident.
