Man arrested for shooting in Valdosta

VALDOSTA – A 20-year-old man was arrested following a shooting in the area of Troup Street and Central Avenue.

Arrested: Jakarie Prophet, African American male, 20 years of age, Valdosta resident

On June 20, 2024, at approximately 10:00 pm., a Valdosta Police Officer heard gunshots in the area of Troup Street and Central Avenue.  As the officer responded to the area, a citizen called E911 to report that her residence, with multiple people inside, had been shot numerous times.  Other officers responded and a vehicle matching the description of a possible suspect car was located abandoned in a nearby parking lot.  The vehicle was seized and transported to the Valdosta Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory for processing.

While processing the vehicle, criminalists recovered evidence connecting Jakarie Prophet, 20 years of age, to the shooting.

On August 30, 2024, detectives received arrest warrants on Prophet for 9 counts of aggravated assault (felony).

On September 4, 2024, at approximately 2:00 pm., a K9 Officer with the Valdosta Police Department observed Prophet sitting on the front porch of a residence in the 1700 block of Clover Drive.  Prophet was arrested on active arrest warrants and transported to Lowndes County Jail.
