Lowndes County Schools Statement:
Lowndes County Schools confirm that a female 13-year-old middle school student was struck by a car Wednesday, August 15, on Cat Creek Road, as she attempted to get on the bus. The student was transported to South Georgia Medical Center and is in stable condition undergoing tests.
The student was trying to get on a school bus near Pine Grove Middle School and was hit by a Nissan Murano. The Georgia State Patrol stated that the Nissan driver claimed, “The bus was in the process of stopping when children began to run into the roadway.” The school bus driver said he was not moving at the time of the accident. An investigation is currently open and video from the school bus is being obtained, according to the GSP. An investigation of the incident is ongoing.
At the beginning of the school year, we encourage drivers to be extra careful as they approach bus stops, students getting on and off of buses, students walking to school, and school buses preparing to stop. Student safety is our top priority!
