GSP: 20 area crashes over Memorial Day Weekend

VALDOSTA – During the 78 hour Memorial Holiday Period, which started on Friday, May 27 and ended Monday, May 30, Post 31 Troopers investigated 20 crashes with six injuries and no fatalities.

Of the 20 crashes, two were caused from drivers following too closely, two were caused from driver’s failing to maintain their lane of travel, two were caused from deer entering the roadway, one was caused by an impaired driver, one was caused by a fatigued driver and one caused by a distracted driver.

Post 31 Troopers conducted 392 traffic stops resulting in 184 citations and 297 warnings. Troopers issued 129 speeding citations, 14 seatbelt violations, 11 child restraint violations, six distracted driving citations and made two DUI arrests.

Statewide numbers have yet been released. There were 12 fatalities reported in Georgia during the holiday period.
